Seeking a senior technical lead to shape early-stage concepts for directed energy capabilities intended for use in space environments. The work focuses on feasibility analysis, system architecture, modeling, risk reduction, and transition planning for future prototype development.

What you'd do

  • Develop concept architectures for directed energy payloads, including power, thermal, beam control, pointing, and platform integration considerations
  • Perform trade studies across laser, RF, and related directed energy approaches for space-relevant missions
  • Build or guide physics-based models, simulations, and performance assessments
  • Identify technical risks, test needs, maturation pathways, and prototype milestones
  • Prepare technical briefs, white papers, and design artifacts for engineering and stakeholder review

What we're looking for

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, optical engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with directed energy, high-power lasers, RF systems, beam propagation, or space payload engineering
  • Strong understanding of space operating constraints, including power, thermal, mass, radiation, and pointing stability
  • Ability to translate early research concepts into credible engineering plans and measurable performance objectives
  • Experience supporting defense, space, or advanced technology R&D programs is preferred
